Walk For Animals
The Walk For Animals is coming up on May 1st, 2010. Formerly known as the Bark In The Park, this annual event held by the Animal Humane Society helps raise thousands of dollars for homeless animals.

The Animal Humane Society has stated in the past: "Nearly 40,000 animals depend on the donations you generate on this single day in May. It is a day that rallies all of us to the humanity of caring for the animals among us, and the funds you raise help rescue lives – both human and animal." Please visit the Walk For Animals website for more information: Walk Information.
Hudson Road Animal Hospital will be participating in the Walk For Animals this year, which will take place in Golden Valley. We encourage any donations that can be made to the cause. The donations can be made at our hospital or online at the Animal Humane Society website at: Hudson Road Animal Hospital's Donation Page.
February Is Pet Dental Month
Dental disease is one of the most common diseases we see on a daily basis. Once dental tartar accumulates on the teeth, it is near impossible to remove at home by regular brushing, raw hides, or dental diets. The only way to remove the dental tartar is by performing a dental prophylaxis.
A dental prophylaxis is a surgical procedure where dental tartar is removed from the teeth with a specialized instrument (an ultrasonic scaler). During the procedure we can clean above and below the gum line to help prevent periodontal disease. Unfortunately, dental disease will often times come back even after a thorough dental prophylaxis.
To help curb this issue, we dedicate one month out of the year for your pet's teeth. During the month of February, you can receive a $75.00 discount off a dental prophylaxis with full mouth x-rays. X-rays are an important part of the dental examination, as it allows us to examine the root structure of the teeth. This helps us determine the extent of the periodontal disease and whether or not a tooth needs to come out.
If you are unsure whether or not your pet needs a dental prophylaxis, we recommend scheduling an appointment to have the teeth evaluated. Our knowledgeable staff will be able to answer your questions about dental disease and let you know if your pet is in need of a cleaning. Call us today if your are interested in pet dental month!
