Dog Bite Prevention Program

MVMAHudson Road Animal Hospital and the Minnesota Veterinary Medical Association (MVMA) are launching a new Dog Bite Prevention Program. The program is called “Stand like a tree, Lie like a log” and it provides elementary-aged kids the tools to help prevent dog bites and how to behave around all kinds of dogs they come in contact with.

The MVMA Dog Bite Prevention Program teaches kids how to approach and pet a dog safely, basic dog body language, what is safe and unsafe with a dog and how to STAND LIKE A TREE if a strange dog runs up to them, or LIE LIKE A LOG if the dog knocks the child over. Hudson Road Animal Hospital will then present these techniques to children throughout schools, scout troops and the community in a format that is fun and easy to follow!

Stand Like A Tree, Lie Like A LogThere are 4 presentations, each catered to a particular age group: Kindergarten, 1st & 2nd grade, 3rd & 4th grade and 5th and 6th grade. The presentations involve handouts, detailed Power Point presentations, and of course, demonstrations with toy animals and possibly real dogs (if allowed). The presenters would be doctors and staff from Hudson Road Animal Hospital and would last no longer than 45 minutes.

With the warmer temperatures and sunny days, everyone is spending more time outdoors so it is even more important to know how to react if a dog approaches our kids. If you are interested in learning more about how to have a presentation done at your location, please contact Marcy Ward at 651-739-0117 or by email at mward@hrah-pa.com.
